1. Manchanbele: 40 kms from Bangalore. Minor dam across Arkavathy river is a popular picnic spot
2. Sholay Hills : 55kms from Bangalore, on Mysore road. This is the den of "Gabbar Singh", the famous dacoit of Sholay fame. As most of the film was shot here, it is now popularly called as Sholay hills Interesting climb to Lord Rama's temple atop this hillock. (Ramadevarabetta is the original name of this hillock)

3. Nandi Hills :60 Kms from Bangalore: New Airport Road-Devanahalli-Nandi Hills. Nandi hills is the nearest hill station from Bangalore. Nandi hills boasts of numerous view points and pleasant weather. It is best visited as a day trip
4. Shivagange (Suggested by our Reader) : 60 Kms from Bangalore.It is a popular temple of Shiva. It is said that the hillock resembles Nandi from east, Ganesha from west, Subramanya from north and Shiva lings from South

5. Chikka Tirupati : 60 kms from Bangalore. Bangalore-Sarjapur Road-Chikka Tirupati. Literally means small Tirupati". Those unable to visit Tirupati temple, visit this temple.
6. Kanva Reservoir : 60 kms from Bangalore. Bangalore-Mysore Highway. Kanva dam is a minor irrigation dam across river Kanva. The dam is an ideal spot for a quiet weekend away from the hustle and bustle of Bangalore.

7. Devarayandurga : 80 Kms from Bnagalore. Bangalore-Neelamangala-Devarayanadurga. Scenic during early monsoons. On top is is the temple of Lakshmi Narasimha swami temple and a Raghavendra mutt.Plenty of trekking options
8. Muthathi :90 Kms from bangalore. Bangalore-Kanakpura-Sathanur.Cauvery riverside and famous temple of Muthathi Anjaneya.

9. Balmuri and Edamuri Falls : 2 beautiful water falls,Balmuri and Edmuri waterfalls is a hot-spot for students and nature lovers and weekend getaway hunters,The place where the Balmuri and Edmuri waterfalls are located is surrounded by lush greenery and is a hot spot among the locals as well. A visit to this place is calming and relaxing.
10. Siddarabetta 97 Kms from Bangalore. A rocky hill with temple and caves at the top are the attractions here though the major crowd which visits is the one of pilgrims. This place also interests trekkers and nature lovers. Cave exploration is an enjoyable experience. 


11. Mekedatu & Sangama: 100 Kms from Bangalore : At Mekedatu, river Cauvery flows thru a gorge. Sangama is a scenic spot where river Arkavathy meets Cauvery
12. Shivanasamudra:120 Kms from bangalore. Bnagalore-Kanakpura-Malavalli-Shivanasamudra. Majestic falls - must visit during Monsoons.

13. Talakadu :120 Kms from Bangalore.Banagalore-Maddur-Malavalli-Talakad.  Picnic Spot & Heritage. Cluster of temples and huge sand dunes on the banks of river Cauvery. Excellent picnic spot with Coracle rides.
14. Srirangapatna : 130 Kms from Bangalore. 

15. Rangantittu Bird Sanctuary : 125 kms from Bangalore. The Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is located about 5 km away from Srirangapatna. Spread over 57 acres, the sanctuary is a small island on the banks of river Kaveri. A bird lovers paradise, this sanctuary is a nesting and breeding center for all kinds of birds.One can see species like the herons, egrets, white ibis, little cormorants, dantes, open billed stork etc. are some of the birds that can be seen in island while on a boat ride.
16. Mysore : 140 Kms from Bangalore. Mysore, the royal city, is the cultural capital of Karnataka. Many attractions, like Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills, Zoo and KRS.

17. Yelagiri : 150 Kms from Bangalore. Quiet hill station getting popular as para-gliding center. Nearby is Kavalur Solar observatory open to public on Saturdays.
18. Shravanabelagola : 160 kms from Bangalore. Colossal rock cut statue (57 Ft) of saint Gommataeshwara also referred as Lord Bahubali.

19. Kokkarebelluru : 80 Kms from bangalore. Bangalore-Chennapatna-Kokkarebellur.  Pelicanary, where you can spot pelicans and painted stork (Jan - June is the season). People of the village treat spot-billed pelicans and painted storks as 'daughter of the village'
20. Melukote : 130 Kms from Bangalore. Bangalore-Mysore Rd-Ramnagara-Mandya-Melukote. 

21. BR Hills : 190 Kms from Bangalore. A hill station, Wildlife Park and spiritual centre all rolled into one. Do visit the BR temple and Dodda Sampige Mara, the “Champak” tree that is worshipped by local Soligas
22. Coorg : 240 Kms from Bangalore :Hill district of Karnataka, referred as “Scotland of India”. You will need more than one weekend to visit various destinations with Coorg. Attractions at Coorg include serene weather, coffee estates, unique Kodava culture and wildlife sanctuaries.Best to explore Coorg over multiple weekend trips.
